A spokesman added: “A large amount of scrap metal at a scrapyard is alight. Firefighters are expected to remain on scene throughout the day working to extinguish the fire.
“A significant amount of smoke is being produced as a result of the fire, and people in the area are advised to keep their windows and doors closed at this time.”
As of 1pm, a large amount of scrap metal at a scrapyard remains alight.
A significant amount of smoke is being produced as a result of the fire and people in the area are advised to keep their windows and doors closed at this time.
A water relay system has been implemented as part of firefighting operations. Appliances are stationed between the incident site and the nearest water hydrant, and then connected together by hose. This is allowing crews to pump a constant supply of water to the scene of the fire.
Crews from Erith, Bexley, Plumstead and surrounding fire stations have been called to the scene.
