A thug who struck a woman over the head with a metal bar before using his car as a weapon to hit a man has been locked up.
Connor Appleton attacked the pair during a violent early-hours confrontation which left both victims needing hospital treatment.
The incident happened in Spital Street, Dartford, at about 3.30am on November 25, 2023.
The 27-year-old had been driving when he became involved in an argument with a group of women walking past.
As the dispute escalated, he got out of his car carrying a metal bar and approached the group.
He struck one of the women over the head, causing her to fall to the ground.
When members of the public tried to intervene, Appleton swung the metal bar towards them before he returned to his car and drove aggressively, turning towards and striking a man on foot.
Shocking footage of the incident shows Appleton, of Wall Close, Rochester, wielding the metal bar and driving off from the incident.
Bodycam footage from police later shows him being arrested at his home at 5.30am the same morning.
He pleaded guilty to dangerous driving, affray, attempted grievous bodily harm with intent, possession of an offensive weapon and inflicting grievous bodily harm.
Appleton was sentenced to five years and one month in prison at Woolwich Crown Court last Thursday (June 4).
Detective Sergeant Emily Matthews said: “Appleton’s level of aggression and violence left both of his victims with significant injuries; his actions were excessive and entirely unacceptable.
“By raising additional issues after pleading guilty, he drew out the process for a further seven months which caused additional unnecessary stress and anxiety for his victims who had already been through so much.
“I hope the sentence imposed brings some closure to the victims, who had to relive this traumatic incident throughout the trial.”
