Michael Pyke, 78, was told he will face trial in November.

The body of Beryl Pyke, 84, was found at their home in Aldwick near Bognor on Sunday, May 31.

Pyke was arrested at the scene after police answered a call over concerns for her welfare.

He appeared at Lewes Crown Court in Hove today, June 5.

Pyke, a British national of Langley Grove, Aldwick, spoke only to confirm his name.

A spokesman for Sussex Police said: “On Sunday, May 31, at around 2pm, emergency services attended Langley Grove in Aldwick, after welfare concerns were raised for a resident inside an address.

“Her next of kin have been informed and our thoughts remain with them at this incredibly difficult time.”

Detective Superintendent Colin Garman said: “Following such a significant and tragic incident, an investigation remains well underway.

“Officers continue to carry out a number of enquiries at the address and in the surrounding area, and an increased police presence will remain visible at this time.

“We recognise the impact this incident has had on the local community and thank residents for their patience and support as the investigation progresses.”

Police are still appealing for witnesses who may have information to come forward.

Reports can be made online or by calling 101, quoting Operation Mayland.

A two week trial is scheduled for November this year.
