The delay was caused by turf damage earlier this spring due to leatherjacket and nematode infestations, which left the track unsafe.
Leatherjackets, the larvae of crane flies, feed on grass roots and destabilise turf, while nematodes are microscopic soil-dwelling worms that damage root systems.
Brighton Racecourse’s grounds team, alongside independent agronomy specialists and the British Horseracing Authority (BHA), carried out extensive remedial work.
A successful track inspection and trial gallop took place on May 20, with the surface deemed race-ready by the BHA Racecourse Inspectorate.
Paul Ellison, executive director of Brighton Racecourse, said: “We are delighted that the work undertaken by our Grounds Team at Brighton has been successful.
“We would, of course, like to thank them for all of their hard work, as well as all of the owners, trainers, jockeys, annual members and customers who have been inconvenienced by the delay to the start of the season.
“Likewise, the local community to the Racecourse for their cooperation and support throughout this period.
“We very much look forward to getting our season underway on Friday, May 29 and welcoming everyone back onto the Racecourse.”
Jockey Tom Queally, who rode in the trial gallop, said: “The horses we rode were a mixture, some experienced and some inexperienced.
“They all gathered a good deal of traction, with plenty of grip.
“I have full confidence in riding any type of horse over any distance at Brighton.”
To mark the return of racing, Brighton Racecourse has announced new family promotions for the summer.
Special £10 tickets will be offered for fixtures on Tuesday, June 9 and Monday, June 22.
A Father’s Day family package is available for £50 and includes entry for two adults and two children, two adult pizzas with drinks, and two children’s sandwich bags.
Residents’ Day, which offers free entry to locals, has been rescheduled for Tuesday, July 7.
Locals in BN1, BN2, BN3, and BN4 can register for up to four tickets per household.
