Groups will gather at Glasgow City Chambers this week for a learning and celebration event, which is being held for organisations to meet and support each other.

There will be an interactive session on the day showcasing how social enterprises help build community wealth, in turn combating poverty in the city.

Councillor Malcolm Mitchell, city government lead for community wealth building & social enterprise, commented: “These organisations do so much to help communities who have to face the daily challenge of poverty.

“I know from my own ward how much of a lifeline so many of these types of organisations are; it’s clear that is also the case in Castlemilk.

“The council’s top priority is combating poverty, and social enterprises are one of the keys to that mission.”

He added: “Interventions aimed at addressing problems need to be replaced with a preventative approach where these problems aren’t allowed to develop.

“The Scottish Government‘s ambitious Community Wealth Building Bill aims to ensure wealth isn’t extracted from local communities, but stays there to the benefit of local people.

“I look forward to celebrating everything Glasgow social enterprises currently do and look to how we can work more closely going forward.”
