The Three Jolly Butchers in North Road, Brighton has announced its closure on social media.

In a post on Friday, the pub’s owners said: Some very sad news for us all, our wonderful pub will be closing at the end of this week.

“Come in and say goodbye and make the most of our lovely sun trap for the rest of this sunny weekend- we will miss you.”

The pub is known for its authentic Thai food and a cosy back room called “The Snug”.

It is not yet known if the pub will continue in its current forms under new ownership.

Under the post, customers shared their sadness at the news.

“Sad news,” said one. “Many a happy pint after work here. Government should slash business rates for pubs bars and restaurants and tax/ duty on drinks sold in bars.

“Why? Because young adults need to regain face to face social skills and current government policies make it very small businesses to prosper or survive.”

A former owner said: “I had the Jolly for 2 years ’87 to ’89. We had a loyal crew and took it from essentially bankrupt to something ready for someone else to take forward.

“Visited a couple of years ago and love what it had become. Very sad news indeed. Another one bites the dust.

“Shame on government business rates and big congratulations to everyone who has been involved ever since.”
