The national rail provider has warned travellers that services between Helensburgh and Edinburgh can only run as far as Airdrie due to a fire between Armadale and Livingstone North.

A ScotRail spokesperson said: “Due to a lineside fire between Armadale and Livingstone North, services between Helensburgh and Edinburgh can only run between Helensburgh and Airdrie.

“Train services between Helensburgh Central and Edinburgh will be cancelled, delayed or revised.

“Passengers travelling from Edinburgh towards Glasgow may wish to travel via Falkirk or Shotts as these services are operating normally.

“Ticket acceptance has been arranged with Edinburgh Trams between Edinburgh Waverley and Edinburgh Park.

“Replacement bus services are being arranged.

“Please use Edinburgh Trams to travel from Waverley or Haymarket to Edinburgh Park where ticket acceptance has been organised.”

National Rail has confirmed that disruption is expected until the end of the day.

A spokesperson said: “A fire next to the track between Armadale and Livingston North means that all lines are closed. As a result, trains running between Airdrie and Edinburgh will be cancelled or revised.

“Disruption is expected until the end of the day.”

Elsewhere, within 10 miles, an outdoor fire near Springhill and Leadloch Road in the Fauldhouse area, between Shotts and Whitburn, has prompted the emergency services to dispatch a wildfire support unit to the scene.

Six fire crews remain at the scene after the alarm was raised at 3.44pm on Sunday afternoon.
