'Four people in difficulty’ near Brighton Palace Pier - UK Daily: Tech, Science, Business & Lifestyle News Updates

This evening, May 17, Brighton RNLI launched following reports of four people in the water in difficulty off the southern end of the pier.

A search was carried out and four surfers were located.

A spokeswoman for Brighton RNLI said: “The volunteer crew were paged at 18:04 and carried out a shoreline search of the area. Four surfers were located in the water and contact was successfully made with them. No other persons were seen in difficulty.

“HM Coastguard was satisfied that the original call related to the surfers, who had safely exited the water, and the incident was subsequently stood down.

“Brighton Lifeboat then returned to station and was made ready for service again.”

The incident comes only days after three women’s bodies were recovered from the sea in Brighton.

The women, believed to be aged between 20 and 30, were found unresponsive in the water off the seafront near Brighton’s Madeira Drive on May 13.

Sussex Police have confirmed that there is no evidence of third-party involvement or criminal activity.

Formal identification has not yet taken place and the women have not been publicly named.

A woman has come forward on social media to say it was her cousins who died – but this has yet to be confirmed.
