Harrington Road in Brighton is partly closed due to the ongoing incident and emergency services including police, ambulance and the fire service are on the scene.
A Sussex Police spokeswoman said: “We are currently at the scene of an incident involving a man on the roof of a property in Harrington Road, Brighton.
“Officers were called to the address at around 1.45pm on Tuesday (12 May) to a report of concern for the welfare of the man.
“A road closure and cordon have been put in place at the junctions with Preston Road and Surrenden Road as a precaution ensure the safety of the public and the man, while officers engage with him.”
Chief Inspector Daniel Hiles said: “I’d like to reassure the public that this incident is contained to the immediate area and there is no wider threat to the community.
“Our priority is safety, and I encourage the public to avoid the area while the incident is dealt with.
“We recognise the disruption this may cause in the local area, and I’d like to thank the community for their ongoing patience and understanding.”
