Dorin Ciorba, 29, was sentenced to 32 years in prison at Maidstone Crown Court yesterday (March 19), and will be deported once the sentence is finished.
It followed a jury finding him guilty of the murder and robbery of Osaretin Oronsaye, after a trial at the same court in February.
Mr Oronsaye was found dead at his home in Dunlop Close on July 5, 2025.
Kent Police officers were able to place Ciorba in the area at the time of the murder after reviewing CCTV footage, which showed him arriving at Dartford Station before cycling to Mr Oronsaye’s home.
Ciorba entered the property and left a short time later wearing different clothes, before boarding a train back to London.
He then immediately used Mr Oronsaye’s bank cards for several transactions.
Officers arrested Ciorba at his home address in Longbridge Road, Barking, on July 17, 2025.
They found the victim’s bank cards and car keys – as well as paperwork relating to a small claims dispute between the two men – during a search of Ciorba’s property.
The documents had been served the evening before the murder.
Investigating officer, detective chief inspector Neil Kimber, said: “I hope this lengthy custodial sentence provides Osaretin’s family and friends with some comfort and will give them time to grieve their loved one.
“Ciorba carried out a senseless murder and truly believed he had gotten away with his crime.
“He arrogantly used Mr Oronsaye’s bank cards after searching online for reports of a murder and kept hold of the items he had taken from the murder scene.
“This case shows that no matter how calculated an offender believes they are, they will not get away with such appalling violence.”
