Van engulfed in flames on Glasgow street as residents woken by 'bangs' - UK Daily: Tech, Science, Business & Lifestyle News Updates

Residents in Cambusdoon Road, Craigend, were woken around 3 am on May 4, by a series of loud bangs echoing through their community car park.

One local told the Glasgow Times they looked outside to see a van “heavily up in flames” and began filming just as another explosion was heard.

They said multiple neighbours dialled 999 and emergency services arrived within minutes, with firefighters and police working at the scene for around 40 minutes until the flames were out.

The witness added that no one appeared to be hurt and that officers were later seen entering a nearby close, where they believed the owner of the vehicle may live.

They said it was not yet clear whether the blaze had been started deliberately or was the result of a mechanical fault.

A Scottish Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: “We were called to a report of a vehicle fire at Cambusdoon Road, Craigend at 02:58 am.

“We mobilised one appliance to the scene and left at 03:44 am, after making sure the fire was extinguished and the area was safe.”

The cause of the fire has not yet been confirmed and Police Scotland have been contacted for comment.
