Branches and leaves were alight near Roebuck Park Cricket Ground on The Drive in Hellingly at 8.30pm on Wednesday.
Jenny, parish council clerk at Hellingly Parish Council, said: “It is very sad to see the damage caused by last night’s fire, if the fire service hadn’t arrived when they did, it would have been disastrous and serious damage might have happened to the Country Park trees and wildlife.
“The council is in contact with the police, our PCSO and have spoken to the Youth Club, from which I would like to confirm that it isn’t anyone that attends the club.
“If anyone has any information please report it to the police or the clerk at the council.
“I hope the people who did this develop a conscience and come forward!
“Residents and walkers, please be vigilant and careful.”
