Gillingham’s end-of-season awards have always taken place, regardless of the on-field situation, with occasions even taking place on the same evening as the club have been relegated.

But this season The Gills’ bosses have decided not to go ahead with the event – after what has been a hugely disappointing campaign.

Tickets for the annual event, which was to be held in the Great Hall at Priestfield Stadium, were priced at £72.

Gillingham started the season in promising fashion, but from October onwards, they’ve plummeted down the league, heading into the weekend sitting 18th in the table, in relegation form.

Thankfully, those two opening months ensured they had enough points to steer clear of the battle to stay in League Two.

The club have said that they will publish a list of award winners on their website over the weekend.

Those awards include the player-of-the-season, the young player award, the goal-of-the-season and the players’ player accolade.

Gillingham, who have been thrashed in their last two games, play their final game of the season at home this Saturday, against Shrewsbury Town.
