Located at 88 Station Road in West Wickham, where Boots and Chef’s Fusion Caribbean Restaurant now stand, once stood the Plaza West Wickham.

Built in the early 1930s, the cinema opened its doors in September 1933 and featured one screen that could seat up to 886 filmgoers.

The cinema opened with Our Betters and Diplomatics on opening night and was designed by architects John Stanley Beard, Alfred Douglas Clare and William Robin Bennett.

The design featured a stage and three dressing rooms, and it was operated by the General Cinema Theatres Ltd. chain before it was later taken over by Odeon Theatres Ltd. in the late 1930s, when it was renamed Odeon.

The cinema survived the brunt of World War II, and in the 1950s it was renamed the Gaumont after it was taken over by the Rank Organisation.

The cinema closed its doors on January 5, 1957, with its final showings of Hollywood or Bust and Breakaway.

It was later demolished in the early 1960s, and Rosemallow House was built on the site, which today features a branch of Boots.
