The game, held in aid of Alzheimer Scotland, will be the main event at the Shooting Stars family fun day, taking place on Sunday, April 12, at Broadwood Football Stadium.

Shooting Stars, now in its second year, will see a Scotland Select take on a World Select in a bid to raise funds to support dementia care, research and improvements in brain health.

Familiar faces confirmed to play include actor George Wilson, football manager Nacho Novo and coach Gavin Skelton, a former professional footballer and brother of BBC presenter Helen Skelton.

Football greats Alex McLeish, John Sutton and Lee McCulloch will also be there, along with Still Game actors Sanjeev Kohli and Matt Costello, plus River City stars Stephen Purdon and Robin Laing.

The day will feature a range of interactive games and activities.

River City actor and Go Radio presenter Stephen Purdon, 42, is taking part in the match in honour of his mother-in-law who is living with dementia.

He said: “My mother-in-law Caroline has been an important person in my life for 25 years – ever since me and my wife Nicola got together when I was 17.

“Caroline is an amazing person and has loved being a hands-on gran to our kids.

“She was diagnosed with dementia about five years ago and it’s been really tough to see the impact on her and on the whole family.

“Her condition has advanced quickly and she’s now getting round-the-clock support in a care home.

“Alzheimer Scotland do such important work so I hope taking part in Shooting Stars helps to raise awareness and funds to help keep their services running for all the many families affected by dementia.”

General admission tickets are priced at £10 for adults, with under-18s admitted free of charge.

Fans can also purchase meet and greet tickets on the day.

More than 1200 tickets have already been sold.

Last year’s match saw more than 3500 fans turn out in Falkirk for a dramatic 2-2 draw, with Scotland winning on penalties.

Henry Simmons, chief executive of Alzheimer Scotland, said: “We’re delighted to have so much support from these sporting and TV legends for Shooting Stars, and to see ticket sales going so well.

“There’s still time for people to buy tickets for what promises to be a fantastic family day out.

“Having so many famous names supporting our cause really helps to get out the message that no one needs to face dementia alone – Alzheimer Scotland is here for you.”
