Eastbourne: Road works set to start on the A22 in March - UK Daily: Tech, Science, Business & Lifestyle News Updates

The work, starting on March 26, will take place on Shinewater Bridge, which carries the A22 Golden Jubilee Way over a railway line in Eastbourne.

East Sussex Highways will replace the bridge bearings and joints as part of a planned maintenance scheme to address components that have reached the end of their service life.

An East Sussex Highways spokesman said: “Replacing the bearings and joints will help protect the structure, reduce the risk of future disruption and ensure the bridge remains safe for all users.

“The work has been carefully planned to minimise disruption, particularly given the bridge’s location over the railway and on the A22 into Eastbourne.

“The majority of work will be carried out from underneath the structure with the road staying open to traffic.”

The project is expected to take around ten months to complete.

Traffic management will include two overnight closures on March 26 and 27.

A reduced speed limit will also be in place from the end of March until January 2027.

Abnormal loads above the standard 44-tonne limit will be diverted during the work.

Further short-term closures and lane closures will be required later in the year.
