A police cordon has been put in place near Kent County Council’s headquarters after two men were stabbed.
Around six police officers and two ambulances are at the scene at County Hall in Maidstone.
The entrance steps to the building were taped off as was the road leading from Maidstone prison and the rail station pedestrian area.
A police spokesman said: “Kent Police was called at 3.33pm to reports of a serious assault.
“Officers are in attendance and two men in their 20s have been taken to hospital by paramedics for injuries consistent with stab wounds.
A police cordon is in place and inquiries are ongoing.
Labour councillor Connie Nolan said she saw a man lying at the foot of a tree.
She explained: “He was being treated on the floor and a police officer told me he had been stabbed in the arm.”
The man has been taken away by ambulance.
The police’s activity is centred around the members’ car park. One witnesses described seeing plain clothed officers wearing disposable gloves are currently at the scene.
Councillors, who had attended this afternoon’s adults social care committee were unable to move their vehicles.
One councillor was asked if his car had a rear view camera.
