Hayling Inshore Lifeboat was tasked alongside Selsey Inshore Lifeboat to the person cut off on the sand bar at West Wittering Beach this morning (March 7).
Hayling Lifeboat arrived on scene and transferred the casualty and the dogs to the lifeboat and brought them ashore.
The casualty was handed over to Selsey Coastguard. The rescue team said the person was ok, although a little cold after trying to get back to the shore by themselves.
West Wittering Estate staff took the casualty to the cafe for a drink and to warm up, the rescue team said.
Selsey Coastguard has issued advice to people following the incident.
“The sand bars at West Wittering Beach go out a long way at low tide,” a spokesman said.
“When the tide changes it races in and it’s easy to get cut off quickly, the currents are extremely strong do not attempt to cross or enter the water.
“Please if you are going to walk out on the sand bars, please ensure you follow the following safety advice.
“Always check the tide times and heights beforehand, use a tidal prediction app like AnyTide.
“Keep looking back to ensure you don’t get cut off by the incoming tide.
“Always carry a means of calling for help on your person in case of an emergency.
“Don’t attempt to cross once the tide has changed, the currents are extremely strong and dangerous here and can easily knock you off your feet and sweep you away – call 999 and ask for the Coastguard instead.
“In an emergency out at sea, on the beach or along the coast dial and ask for the Coastguard.”
