On Friday, Politico revealed that Glasgow South MP Gordon McKee sat down with Morris Katz, one of the top aides behind Mr Mamdani’s shock victory in November.
“The fight against the aligned interests of the oligarchy and the far right is an international one, and I’ll try to be helpful wherever I can,” the progressive strategist, 26, told Politico.
According to the American political website, Labour and Green surrogates invited Mr Katz to come to London for the meetings, which centred on his strategy and messaging techniques.

Mr McKee, 31, has regularly shared video content on his social media platforms since being elected to Westminster in July 2024.
In recent videos, the Rutherglen-born politician has explained the UK’s ‘productivity crisis’ using pancakes and talked about the nation’s “fiscal rules” with bourbons and custard creams.
“He’s a very smart guy,” Mr McKee said on X. “Lots we can learn from him,” he added.
While in London, Mr Katz also spoke to Labour MP Rosie Wrighting and Rowenna Davis, who is running for mayor of Croydon, as well as several individuals from the Green Party.
Mr Katz’s intervention comes as Labour’s left flank is streaming to the Greens in ever-greater numbers, particularly after the party lost its sixth safest constituency to the Greens in the Gorton and Denton by-election.
At Scottish Labour’s conference in Paisley last week, Mr McKee said the by-election result was “obviously disappointing” but asked if Keir Starmer should quit as Prime Minister, he said: “No. We had a good candidate and I feel sorry for her.”
Mr Mamdani has become a darling of the Scottish left in recent months.

The SNP sent the 34-year-old a baby box in January after he proposed a similar scheme during his mayoral campaign.
Social Justice Secretary Shirley Anne-Somerville said: “I read with interest that Mayor Mamdani was considering a baby basket scheme in New York and hope that, by sending a Scottish example, it will provide inspiration to help him to refine and develop his exciting policy.
“Scots share much in common with the people of New York, not least our history and heritage… I’m proud that we can also share a commitment to tackling child poverty and addressing the cost-of-living for the people that we serve.”
