Tailormade Bakery and Kitchen, based in Newhaven, was crowned winner of the Lamb Pie and Hot-Eating Savoury Pie categories at this year’s British Pie Awards.

Their Minty Lamb Pie in a Beef Dripping Crust and Turkey and Smoked Bacon Pie beat off 100 entries across both categories.

Matthew O’Callaghan, chairman of the Mowbray Pork Pie Association and host of the awards, said: “This year’s awards have been a stellar tribute to the nation’s love of pies, with a phenomenal atmosphere and, as always, oodles of creativity on display.

“We had a wonderful day on Wednesday as we were given the important job of sampling some truly outstanding pies.

“Tailomade Bakery and Kitchen were victorious not once, but twice, amongst some stiff competition in the Lamb Pie and Hot-Eating Savoury Pie categories.

“Their delicious Minty Lamb Pie with Beef Dripping Crust and Turkey and Smoked Bacon Pie were standout winners.

“These awards highlight the true skill and imagination of pie makers across the UK, which is why this win is so well-deserved.”

The British Pie Awards have celebrated the nation’s best pies for 18 years, honouring everything from traditional favourites to modern, trend-inspired flavours.

This year’s competition featured 26 categories, including options for vegetarian, vegan and gluten-free entries.

Tailormade Bakery and Kitchen supplies frozen pies nationwide to restaurants, pubs and other food outlets.

The awards were judged by 187 experts with extensive industry experience.

The judging panel included pie buyers from Tesco and Sainsbury’s, food writers and journalists and Neil Broomfield, the 2015 Supreme Champion.

The event continues to spotlight the craftsmanship, creativity and enduring popularity of pies across the UK, with Tailormade’s double win reaffirming their reputation in the industry.
