The Govan Community Alcohol Partnership (CAP) received the honour for its efforts to reduce underage drinking, promote alcohol awareness, and deliver positive youth engagement.
CAPs are community-led schemes that bring together police, councils, schools, retailers, and community groups to address the harms of underage drinking and improve health and wellbeing.
Key members of the Govan CAP include Police Scotland, Scottish Fire & Rescue, Glasgow Life, the Govan Youth Information Project, Govan High School, and Glasgow City Council.
PC Keiran Traynor from Govan Police Office, who coordinates the scheme, said: “We are delighted with this award, which recognises the work by all the partners involved in the CAP in Govan.
“Engagement with young people has been a key element of our work in the last year and it’s something we will build on as we move forward.”
One of the project’s highlights was a youth engagement event at Govan High School.
Nearly 200 young people took part in interactive sessions covering alcohol awareness, vaping, anti-social behaviour, and future opportunities, including careers and volunteering.
The activities were delivered in a relaxed and approachable environment, with additional creative sessions such as BMX sessions and graffiti art.
“By combining education, outreach and positive activities, partners are helping young people make safer choices while building stronger relationships between services and the community.
“It is encouraging to see such strong early progress and the foundations now in place for long-term impact.
“Congratulations to the team on being recognised for its outstanding work.”
The Govan CAP team received their award at a ceremony in the House of Commons on Monday, March 2.
