Bradie Thomson repeatedly targeted shops across Worthing and was given a suspended sentence in November last year.

But the 37-year-old continued to commit offences in breach of the order.

At Crawley Magistrates’ Court on February 9, he was jailed for six months.

Thomson, of no fixed address, admitted eight shop thefts and one count of burglary other than a dwelling.

The court was told how Thomson was identified for further shoplifting offences between July and August last year.

These included a theft at the Co-op in Portland Road, Hove, on July 14, a theft at Sainsbury’s in Littlehampton Road, Worthing, on August 10, and a theft at the same Sainsbury’s again on August 16.

A further three offences were committed on December 6 and December 8 at the Co-op store in Rowlands Road, Worthing.

He committed a burglary at the Co-op in Test Road, Sompting, on December 9, and thefts at the Co-op and at Iceland in Angmering on January 30 this year.

The court was told how Thomson has 58 previous convictions for 209 previous offences, more than half of which were for theft related offences.

He was made the subject of a Criminal Behaviour Order which prohibits his entry into stores with other named individuals. He is banned from entering any Co-op in Sussex and any Sainsbury’s in West Sussex, for five years, and cannot remain on any retail premises if asked to leave by staff, a manager, or business owner.

Adur and Worthing District Commander Chief Inspector James Davidson said: “Officers have been working hard to identify the most prolific offenders.

“We work closely with businesses to tackle shoplifting, and we understand the concern it causes for the community and for staff working in retail.

“Thomson was a repeat offender and we are pleased that he is now serving a custodial sentence.”
