The Saltdean Lido main building in Saltdean and Mayfield School Health and Wellbeing Centre, Mayfield, are two of 14 buildings shortlisted for the prestigious Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA) South East awards for 2026.
Among the other Sussex-based rivals for the awards are The Richard Cairns Building at Brighton College and Rye Harbour Discovery Centre.

Craig Sheach, RIBA south-east jury chairman, praised the “incredibly diverse range of schemes”.
He said the list ranged from “bespoke new-build homes and deftly reimagined heritage buildings to bold and beautifully crafted civic interventions”.
The full list of buildings on the list is as follows:

- Casa Bassa by Francesco Pierazzi Architects
- Clay Rise by Templeton Ford

Mr Sheach said the finalists show how architecture’s boundaries “can be pushed in new and different directions”.

He added the designs either “exploit new and emerging materials or deepen our understanding of how to bring existing structures back to life”.
A regional jury will now visit all the shortlisted projects, with the winners announced later this spring.
They will then go forward for a RIBA National Award.
From there, the UK’s best new building will be picked for the Stirling Prize in October.
The Brighton Dome restoration previously won two RIBA South East awards last year.
