The incident between East Croydon and London Bridge has led to major disruption to Southern trains, which is also having a knock-on impact in the county.
A statement on the Southern website said: “A person has been hit by a train between West Croydon / East Croydon and New Cross Gate. Whilst the emergency services attend to the scene, all lines between these stations are closed.
“London Overground services between West Croydon / Crystal Palace and Highbury & Islington will not run between West Croydon / Crystal Palace and New Cross Gate.
“Southern and Thameslink services running between West Croydon / East Croydon and London Bridge / London Victoria (via Selhurst and Crystal Palace) may be cancelled, severely delayed or revised.
“Major disruption is expected until the end of the day.”
The statement added: “Services are currently unable to run in either direction between West Croydon / East Croydon and London Bridge / London Victoria.
“At present, lines both to / from London Bridge and London Victoria are blocked, although we do expect the line to / from London Victoria to be able to reopen at some point. We are unable to provide an estimate for this at present.
“Journey times will be significantly extended this evening, so please allow plenty of extra time – we would advise at least an extra 60 minutes. It is very likely that you will need to use an alternative route to complete your journey this evening.”
