The Bedford behind Belfast City Hall is preparing to open later this year

It is all go at the site of Belfast’s newest multi-million-pound hotel opening in the city centre later this year.

The Bedford Hotel, located behind Belfast City Hall, is in the process of bringing one of Belfast’s most distinctive vacant buildings back to use.

Following an 18-month redevelopment project, the listed Scottish Mutual Building, a Scottish Baronial-style property dating back to 1904, has been transformed into an 82-bedroom hotel, open for bookings from May.

While work is still underway before tourists and locals alike will be welcomed into its stylish rooms, destination restaurant, private dining spaces and a café bar, Belfast Live headed down for a sneak peek at the progress so far.

The hotel will create over 100 new jobs across management, culinary, front-of-house, and operational roles, providing a direct boost to local employment and long-term career opportunities within the sector.

Executive Head Chef Noel McMeel is excited as preparations get underway for the opening of The 1900, a restaurant dedicated to highlighting our local produce, inside the hotel.

Renowned for his tenure at Lough Erne Resort and for cooking for global leaders at the G8 Summit, McMeel will lead a culinary offering focused on Northern Irish cuisine and nurturing the next generation of hospitality talent in Northern Ireland.
