A town centre Poundland store has taped off and a person has been arrested after a small fire broke out in one of the aisles.
It happened inside the branch in St George’s Street, Canterbury, at around 3pm today (February 20).

A spokesperson for the discount retailer said: “Thanks to the quick action of colleagues and nearby security staff, the fire was quickly extinguished and the store rapidly evacuated.
“We’re grateful for the prompt attendance of the fire brigade and that none of our colleagues or customers were injured.
“We will re-open the store once we’ve carried out a full clean up and apologise for our temporary closure while we carry out that work.”
The chain added that police officers attended the scene, and an arrest was made in relation to the incident.
Kent Fire and Rescue Service has confirmed two fire engines were sent to the scene, however the fire was out on arrival.
A spokesperson added that the fire is believed to have been started deliberately.
Kent Police has been approached for more information.
