Burgers? Get some ketchup on them.

Roast dinners? Drown it in gravy.

Chips? Don’t talk to me if they’re dry.

Then there’s pizza – a crust without something to dunk it in is hanger fuel.

It’s a concern Domino’s Pizza knows well, hence the wild popularity of its Garlic and Herb dip which it serves in small bucket form.

But a match made in saucy heaven is chicken; whether wing, nugget or fillet, poultry is made for bathing in some form of condiment.

So to cater for this need, the pizza giant has rolled out its Chick ‘N’ Dip range nationwide, with seven new dips alongside the aforementioned favourite and BBQ sauce and the above trinity as dipping vessels.

One murky weeknight, my boyfriend and I were lucky enough to try the new range. Here’s what we thought of the dips.

Domino’s Chick ‘N’ Dips ranked

BBQ

Boyfriend: A classic. 8/10

Me: Agreed – nicer than your average BBQ sauce. 7.5/10

Garlic and Herb dip

Boyfriend: Does what it says on the tin. 7/10

Me: A total classic and my favourite takeaway pizza dip – but it got a bit lost here compared to some of those bolder flavours. 7/10

Garlic aioli

Boyfriend: Light, creamy: all you want in a garlic aioli dip. 9/10

Me: Has a sweetness to it that lifts it above the garlic and herb dip in this context. 8/10

Hot honey

Boyfriend: The heat doesn’t grow, it’s quite sharp, but for me it needs to be paired with the garlic aioli. 7/10

Me: I’m biased against hot honey as I find it too sickly and a bit faddy. I would have preferred a Thai sweet chilli here – something that’s a bit more tangy. 6/10

Mexicana mayo

Boyfriend: This has a lovely taste to it. 8.5/10

Me: A creamy fajita flavour, it stands out from the crowd and is a strong addition. 7.5/10

Ghost chilli glaze

Boyfriend: Did not partake due to disliking spicy foods. N/A

Me: If you’re a big dipper it’s pretty fiery but otherwise okay – and I can see the social appeal of egging on friends and family to try it. It has a pleasant sweetness too, but I wouldn’t have too much of it. 5.5/10

Katsu curry sauce

Boyfriend: It’s quite mellow which works well with the chicken – sometimes katsu can be too sour. 8/10

Me: A well-established combo with chicken and also more distinctive than the other mayos. Winner winner, chicken dinner. 8/10

Buffalo hot sauce

Boyfriend: Did not partake due to disliking spicy foods. N/A

Me: I’m biased as I love buffalo sauce. It’s not quite as good as Frank’s hot sauce but its not far off either. Great paired with one of the creamier dips like the garlic and herb or the aioli. 8.5/10

Teriyaki sauce

Boyfriend: It was nice enough. 7/10

Me: Too gingery for my palate, with an odd aftertaste. This was a one dip and done for me. : 5/10

The winner? Garlic aioli and Buffalo in a joint win, with Katsu and Mexicana Mayo a close runner-up
