Eastbourne Vets warned dog owners to avoid Hampden Park after receiving reports of dogs becoming ill.
The vets said dogs had “haemorrhagic diarrhoea and extreme lethargy, requiring hospitalisation”.
They added the “only known link is recent walks around Hampden Park”.
Local dog owners have been asked to closely monitor dogs who have been in this area and seek veterinary attention if they experience profuse diarrhoea, weakness, vomiting and sudden lethargy.
A spokesman said: “Please also ensure your dog’s vaccinations are up to date, as this is vital protection against serious infectious diseases, such as leptospirosis, which comes from rat urine.
“For now, consider avoiding the area and prevent dogs from drinking from puddles or scavenging.”
