Sadie Dyre, a student at the University of Glasgow, will appear on BBC ALBA’s Mas Fhìor, marking the channel’s first venture into “high-energy studio gameshows”.
The 12-part series, which features pairs of Gaelic-speaking contestants from across the UK, will launch on Tuesday, February 17.
Taking its name from the Gaelic slang phrase meaning “as if”, the show tests confidence, credibility and quick thinking, with contestants tasked with deciding what’s true, what’s false, and most importantly, who they can trust.
Sadie is one of eight Pretenders, or Mas Fhìoraich in Gaelic, who appear throughout the series to test the instincts and judgement of the competing teams.
Originally from Carloway on the Isle of Lewis, Sadie moved to Edinburgh at the age of seven and is now studying in Glasgow.
Alongside her studies, she works with Blasad Gàidhlig to introduce nursery and primary pupils to Gaelic in non-Gaelic-speaking schools.
She is also passionate about promoting the language in everyday life and runs a social group for young Gaelic-speaking women.
Her group creates welcoming spaces to use the language through activities such as pottery painting, yoga sessions, and live music events.
Sadie said: “Being part of Mas Fhìor was such a fun experience and a little bit nerve-wracking in the best way.
“I loved how playful the show is, while still putting Gaelic at the centre of everything.
“It’s the kind of programme you can watch with friends and shout your guesses at the screen, and I think people will really enjoy that.”
Recorded at Night Sky Studios in Coatbridge,Mas Fhìor is hosted by Niall Iain MacDonald, a well-known presenter on BBC ALBA and BBC Radio nan Gàidheal.
The series is produced by BEEZR Studios in partnership with Screen Scotland dand directed by John Smith,
Emily Orr from Screen Scotland said: “It’s fantastic to be able to support the team at BEEZR Studios to showcase their abilities across this new format and we can’t wait for udiences to enjoy Mas Fhìor.”
