Easter is my daughter’s favorite time of the year. She has an undeniable love for anything in the shape of a bunny and any Easter food or decorations. So this year I wanted to try an easy, quick, and fun activity to keep her cousins entertained (and out of her makeup) and she was all up for making these.

Easter Oreo Balls

These Easter egg Oreo balls are such a simple recipe and it kept the children and their big cousins entertained while the rest of us focussed on setting up the Easter egg hunt.

In under one hour, we had the most delicious dessert ready and the children impressed us with their creativity. Let me tell you there can never be too many sprinkles according to my nieces. And the day before they enjoyed making these Air Fryer Dyed Easter Eggs. And yes, they still have yellow hands.

Oreos are always the magical ingredient that’s so versatile in most recipes anything from an Oreo crust for your favorite pies, Oreo Milkshake, Easy Oreo Fluff Dessert, and these Fried Oreos. I can’t think of a more loved cookie that can be used for so many things.

Why Make This Recipe

  • No bake – Turning on the oven to make anything else after cooking up a storm is the last thing you feel like doing on a warm Easter day.
  • Edible gifts – We love giving these as edible gifts to our neighbors and no one can resist an Oreo that’s been shoozed up.
  • Creative kid-friendly activity – We’ve done the coloring and all other store-bought crafts but this activity was one that they definitely could have done for over an hour if we let them. So I am sure it is going to be added as a family tradition.

Ingredients Notes

These Easter orea truffles only need 5 ingredients and are simple to source.

  • Golden Oreos – You can use standard chocolate Oreos or Lemon Oreos instead of Golden Oreos.
  • Cream cheese – Use softened cream cheese at room temperature. It mixes so much better without any lumps. I like to use full-fat cream cheese.
  • White chocolate chips or candy coating – If you can find pre-colored melting chocolates or candy coating, you can use those instead. This will save you a good amount of time, too.
  • Pastel-colored food coloring – If coloring your own white chocolate, try to find an oil-based food coloring. Water-based food coloring can cause your white chocolate or candy coating to seize up while mixing.
  • Easter-themed or pastel-colored sprinkles – Choose whichever sprinkles you like, we’ve used colourful pastel balls and mini egg shaped ones.

How To Make Easter Oreo Balls

Get your 5 ingredients and your food processor and let’s make these. Get the complete ingredients list and instructions from the recipe card below

  1. In the bowl of a large food processor, pulse the Oreo cookies until fine crumbs appear.
  2. Add the cream cheese and blend until smooth and no lumps remain. Remove the bowl, then cover and refrigerate for 30 minutes until firm.
  3. Prepare a baking sheet with parchment paper. Use a small cookie scoop or spoon to scoop out portions of the truffle mixture, roughly 1.5 tablespoons in volume.
  4. Roll into balls between the palms of your hands and place them onto your prepared baking sheet. Cover the baking sheet and freeze for 15 minutes.
  5. Meanwhile, melt the white chocolate chips or candy coating according to the package directions.
  6. If you want to you can separate the melted candy coating (or just use one color) into 4 bowls, then color them with food coloring, mixing thoroughly until the colored coating is smooth and no streaks are visible.
  7. Working as quickly as you can, lower the chilled Oreo truffle balls one at a time into the melted candy coating. Lift out of the candy coating using a fork, and allow any excess coating to drain off back into the bowl.
  8. Gently place the coated Oreo truffle balls back onto your parchment-lined baking sheet.
  9. Drizzle additional colors of melted candy coating over each truffle ball and top with sprinkles, if desired. Allow to set and harden, then serve

Bintu’s Tips for Success

  • Microwave your cream cheese for 15 seconds if you have not had time to place it out to come to room temperature.
  • If your candy coating seizes up while mixing it you can add coconut oil or vegetable oil. Add one teaspoon at a time to restore its liquid consistency.
  • If you plan to drizzle additional colored candy coating over your truffles, I recommend using piping bags for the most uniform, clean look.

Prep and Storage

  • Prep Ahead – You can make them 5 days in advance.
  • Freeze –  I don’t recommend freezing these as the condensation causes them to look dull. But it is possible. If you do decide to they can be frozen for up to 3 months.
  • Storage – Store leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 5 days.
