The branch, located in Cumbernauld town centre, is reportedly going to shut for good on February 18.
Councillor Adam Smith, who represents Cumbernauld East, explained that over the past few weeks, he had several people contact him about the reported closure.
Cllr Smith went on to state that local representatives had since received an official update on the situation.
The current franchisee who operates this Post Office branch is said to have notified management at The Centre Cumbernauld of their intention to permanently shut the premises when their current lease expires.

A statement published to Cllr Smith’s Facebook page reads: “A number of people have contacted me over the last few weeks about the closure of the Post Office in the town centre.
“I hadn’t received anything official about this until today, when council officers confirmed the Post Office will permanently close on Wednesday, February 18.
“The update issued to Councillors today advised: ‘The current franchisee who operates the Post Office in Cumbernauld town centre has informed the centre management of their intention to permanently close their premises when their current lease expires on February 18, 2026.
“‘This is disappointing for residents and businesses in the area who use Post Office services. This decision has been made by the Franchisee despite alternative accommodation being offered within The Centre Cumbernauld and appears to be a business decision to close permanently.
“While we await information from the Post Office, we can advise that there are other Post Office services available at Main Street in Cumbernauld Village, Balloch, Condorrat, Craigmarloch and within Costcutter at Lochinvar Road, Greenfaulds.’
“This is incredibly disappointing for all those who use Post Office services and banking facilities through the Post Office.
“I know Jamie Hepburn MSP has contacted the Post Office about the closure, and both Jamie and I have also previously requested a Banking Hub for Cumbernauld.
“There absolutely should be a Post Office in Cumbernauld Town Centre, and I will continue to do what I can to secure that.”
