A man in his 20s has been charged with murder after a fatal stabbing.

The victim, named locally as Tim Hepworth, died near his home in Noreen Avenue, in Minster, Sheppey, on Saturday night (January 17).

Police were called around 6.40pm, and it was reported that Mr Hepworth, who was in his 50s, had been assaulted and suffered stab wounds.

Officers and paramedics attended the scene, close to a children’s play park.

Despite life-saving efforts, the victim was confirmed dead at the scene. A suspect was arrested shortly after.

William Hepworth, from Alma Road, Sheerness, has been charged with murder, police confirmed this morning.

The 23-year-old will appear before Medway Magistrates’ Court later today.

It is understood that both men were known to each other.

Floral tributes and written notes have been left at the door of the victim’s home.

One read: “To Tim. Thanks for the memories. You will be missed forever.”

Another read: “Rest in peace Tim. Sadly missed.”

Residents told KentOnline how a commotion broke out in the normally quiet street at around 6.30pm on Saturday.

One resident jumped out of her car to perform CPR on the injured man, witnesses said.

One 66-year-old neighbour, who did not want to be named, said her room was “lit up by blue lights”.

The former care nurse, who has lived in the road for more than 40 years, said: “Masses of police cars, a fire engine and ambulances turned up.

“The whole room lit up with blue lights.

“It’s really shocking. You had sniffer dogs going around until around 4am.

“There was a tent in the road until early Sunday morning. There were forensics up and down the road.

“The road was closed off all of yesterday (Sunday) until about 9pm or 10pm.

“I have never seen anything like this.”

Meanwhile, a 22-year-old resident said he heard “a bit of a commotion” before looking out his window and seeing police officers.

The dad-of-one, who did not want to be identified, said: “It was like being in a film.

“It’s normally quiet around here.

“A few residents say they saw the incident happen, with one woman screaming out of her window for it to stop.”
