A road has been partially closed because of a “dangerous manhole” – sparking long queues in a town centre.
Roadworks at the Armstrong Road junction on the A229 Loose Road in Maidstone have taken out one lane, with four-way temporary traffic lights in operation.
Traffic coming from the south heading into town is queued back past the Wheatsheaf junction, with shorter queues also on the other three arms of the crossroads.
The pedestrian crossing at the junction has also been turned off.
Kent Highways says the closure is due to a dangeous manhole and is likely to stay in place until Monday, while repairs are completed.
