Formal identification is yet to take place
A body was recovered from the River Stour after extensive searches were carried out by emergency services. Kent Police officers were called at around 5.50pm on Saturday (January 10) due to concern for a woman who was reported to have entered the water near Pound Lane, Canterbury.
A thorough search of the area was carried out with assistance from Kent Fire and Rescue Service, Kent Search and Rescue and a National Police Air Service helicopter. The search was stood down shortly before midnight and resumed the following day.
On Sunday (January 11), a body was recovered from the river. A Kent Police spokesperson said: “While formal identification of the deceased has not taken place, the family of a 55-year-old woman from Faversham has been informed.”
The death is not being treated as suspicious and a report will be prepared for the coroner, the spokesperson added.
