Caked, who opened their shop in Anniesland at the end of November, have said that the decision has been “genuinely horrendous to come to terms with.”
The bakery was a finalist for Food and Drink StartUp of the Year in 2025 at the Scotland StartUp Awards, but has had to make the difficult decision to shut its cafe.

The cafe’s team shared the emotional news on social media, saying: “Not the message I was hoping to be putting out this New Year, but unfortunately, so soon after we opened our doors to our lovely new shop, we sadly have gone out of business.
“This has been an awful period, and the decision has been genuinely horrendous to come to terms with.
“The business was running month to month, and at the tail end of summer, I took a massive risk in taking the shop on in order to try to grow the business in a truly challenging economic time, a decision I’ll never regret.
“Unfortunately, with the cost of overheads and the rising price of ingredients, as much as everyone was showing so much support, we just weren’t turning a profit, and I’ve now got to the point where I have literally nothing left financially to put into it.
“I knew we were cutting it fine every month from summer to survive, but I’d projected a successful run up to Christmas, and in the end, we did about 20% of that target, and it just simply wasn’t enough for us to cover the bills to get through January.
“For weeks, I debated whether to pull extra funds in from various avenues, but in reality, with the way January/February was always going to be and was just delaying the inevitable, we needed to bank in December to give it a go, and unfortunately, we just didn’t get the sales required
“Broken but never defeated, I’m sure what’s for me won’t go by me, but this is a really sore one and will leave a wound that’ll take a while to heal for sure, but that’s life.
“I’ll never regret trying, it’s never a failure, only a lesson, and life goes on.
“From the bottom of my heart, thank you so much to everyone who supported the journey; it just wasn’t meant to be.”
