Emergency services were called to Waverley Road at around 9.15am on Friday, January 9, after the man was found injured.
A major emergency response was launched, with a trauma team, ambulances, fire engines and dozens of police officers attending the scene. The man was taken to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital in Glasgow for treatment, where he died on Saturday, January 10.
A Police Scotland spokeswoman said: “Around 9.15am on Friday, 9 January, 2026, we were called to a demolition site on Waverley Road in Paisley after a man was injured.
“The 36-year-old man was taken to hospital for treatment, where he died on Saturday, 10 January, 2026.
“An investigation into the circumstances remains ongoing and the Health and Safety Executive have been informed.
“A report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal in due course.”
A police cordon was put in place around the area following the incident, with members of the public advised to avoid the scene.
Images from the site showed fire engines, ambulances and police vehicles parked near the ongoing demolition works, with emergency personnel wearing hard hats and high-visibility clothing working in the area.
The Scottish Ambulance Service confirmed it sent one ambulance, a trauma team and a special operations team to the scene.
A spokesperson for the Scottish Ambulance Service said: “We received a call today to attend an incident on Waverley Road in Paisley.
“We dispatched one ambulance, our trauma team and our special operations team to the scene. We transported one male patient in his 40s to Queen Elizabeth University Hospital.”
