Engineering work will affect the Brighton Main Line on consecutive weekends in January 2026, starting today, disrupting travel to and from London, Gatwick Airport, and parts of the Sussex coast.

The affected weekends are January 10 and 11, January 17 and 18, and January 24 and 25.

“Journey times will be extended, so please allow plenty of additional time, especially if you are travelling to the airport to catch a flight”, a Govia Thameslink Railway spokesperson said.

On those dates, all lines between Gatwick Airport and Purley/East Croydon will be closed, with no trains running between Gatwick Airport and East Croydon/Purley, Reigate and Redhill, Redhill and Tonbridge.

For journeys between central London and Gatwick Airport, passengers are advised to use the diverted Southern train service that will run between London Victoria and Gatwick Airport and call only at Clapham Junction.

Alternatively, use trains to East Grinstead and change there for replacement buses to/from Gatwick Airport.

⚠️Due to congestion at East Grinstead services running to and from this station will be delayed

🕓Disruption is expected until 16:00

Replacement bus services will operate on the following routes: East Grinstead and Gatwick Airport, East Grinstead and Three Bridges, Gatwick Airport to Redhill, Redhill to Purley, Redhill and Tonbridge, Reigate and Redhill, and Horsham and Dorking (on Saturdays only).

For journeys between Brighton or the Sussex Coast and London, use trains to Three Bridges and change there for replacement buses to/from East Grinstead for onward train connections to/from central London.

Southern Water added that services running to and from East Grinstead are being delayed today due to the extra congestion.
