Leafy Kent town to have 132m of double yellow lines painted

This will mean no waiting at any time for vehicles

Double yellow lines of a total distance of 132 metres are to be painted in a town in Kent. Kent County Council (KCC) has published a public notice to make people aware the “no waiting at any time” restrictions will be going ahead in Tonbridge, in west Kent.

The decision follows consideration of the feedback from a public consultation of 25 days, which ended in May last year. The council said the reasons for the new lines were for the safety of people “or other traffic” using the road, or any other road, and preventing accidents; to make it easier to use the road, for any type of traffic including pedestrians; and to preserve or improve the area through which the roads run.

If anyone wanted to challenge the validity of the order, or on other matters, they have to apply to the High Court by February 2.

The sections of double yellow lines are:

    Baker Lane

    • On its south west side, join up the current restrictions 40m from its junction with Five Oak Green Road to its junction with Hops Close.
    • On its north east side, join up the current restrictions 50m from its junction with Five Oak Green Road for a distance of 36m in a north westerly direction.

    Hops Close

    • On its south side, from at its junction with Baker Lane for a distance of 6m in a southerly direction.

What do double yellow lines mean?

Double yellow lines mean you can not wait or park there at any time. However, in some cases, you might be able to quickly stop to load or unload heavy goods.

Blue Badge carriers can usually park on double yellows for up to three hours – but you must clearly display your badge. However, the AA warns “these exceptions won’t always apply though, so check for local signs or kerb edge markings”.

“If there are pairs of short yellow lines over the kerb edge you’re not allowed to load at any time. Even with a Blue Badge you mustn’t park anywhere where there are loading restrictions,” it adds.
