Dementia UK and Nationwide are teaming up once again to offer in-person clinics in several towns across Scotland this month.
The clinics are designed to offer confidential advice in a comfortable and private setting on any aspect of dementia – from understanding the condition and getting a diagnosis to managing symptoms and planning for the future.
Dementia UK’s clinics will take place at Nationwide branches in Glasgow, Rutherglen, East Kilbride, Motherwell and Paisley, as well as several other towns across Scotland.
Sarah Cooper, admiral nurse at Dementia UK, said: “We’re looking forward to returning to Scotland to offer support and advice to families affected by dementia in the area.
“Our clinic programme, in partnership with Nationwide Building Society, has now been running for over a year which has enabled us to reach thousands of people across the country who need the support of a dementia specialist admiral nurse.”
The clinics provide practical and emotional guidance to anyone worried about dementia, whether they are experiencing symptoms themselves, supporting a loved one or seeking general information.
Appointments can be booked through Dementia UK’s website.
Dementia is often thought of as a memory problem, but early symptoms can vary from person to person and may include changes in personality, communication or the ability to carry out daily tasks.
Common signs of dementia include forgetfulness, difficulties with decision-making, changes in behaviour, communication issues and confusion about time and place.
Charlotte Kensett, director of customer experience and social impact at Nationwide, said: “Dementia impacts millions of families and that’s why we’re incredibly proud to have brought life-changing support into 200 of our branches and helped more than 30,000 people through our partnership with Dementia UK.
“As a mutual we believe we have a role to play in strengthening the communities we serve and supporting those most in need.
“Through our social impact strategy, Nationwide Fairer Futures, we’re committed to changing hundreds of thousands of lives for the better.”
The clinics will take place in East Kilbride, Paisley, Greenock, Glasgow Byres Road, Rutherglen and Motherwell from January 20 to 29.
The clinics will visit Paisley on January 20, Greenock on January 21, Glasgow Byres Road on January 22, Rutherglen on January 27, Motherwell on January 28 and East Kilbride on January 29.
More information about the clinics, including how to book a confidential appointment with an admiral nurse, can be found on the Dementia UK website.
