Officers are continuing to appeal for witnesses and information
A third man has been arrested after an elderly pedestrian died in a collision with a car in Gillingham earlier this week. On Monday (December 29), police and paramedics rushed to the A289 Gads Hill shortly after midday following reports of a collision involving a grey Mercedes estate and a pedestrian.
It is reported the car then travelled on and was later found in Eastcourt Lane, where the two occupants had left on foot, Kent Police said. The pedestrian, a man in his 80s, had been carried by the car and was located on the ground at Grange Road.
He was treated by South East Coast Ambulance Service responders but was pronounced deceased at the scene. Later that day, officers from Kent Police arrested two men in connection with the incident.
A 29-year-old, from Chatham, and a 28-year-old, of no fixed address, both remain in custody. Yesterday (December 30), a third man was arrested in connection with the crash following a public appeal for information.
The 28-year-old, from Edgware, London, remains in custody. An investigation into the circumstances of the fatal collision is ongoing.
Detective Inspector Zoe Wilczek, of Kent Police’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit, said: “We would like to thank all those who have assisted our investigation so far. While we are not looking for any further suspects at this time, we are urging anyone who witnessed the incident, or saw the vehicle or pedestrian prior to the collision, to contact us.
“We’re also asking anyone who may have caught any part of the incident on their dashcams and CCTV, and has not yet got in touch with us, to do so.” Anyone with information should call 01622 798538 or email sciu.td@kent.police.uk, quoting reference EW/LB/093/25.
