Several busy stations will be closed for works
Full details have been confirmed on all of the works and closures impacting train travel in Kent on New Year’s Day and beyond, with several busy lines and stations to see closures.
Various projects will impact the Southeastern network over the coming days, which may impact journeys to and from New Year’s celebrations this week.
Since Saturday, December 27, there have been no Southeastern trains to London Victoria and this will continue until New Year’s Eve (Wednesday, December 31).
This is due to major engineering works and trains are being diverted to London Canon Street, though there are no services between London and Beckenham Junction via Herne Hill.
Accessible buses are running between Denmark Hill and Beckenham Junction, while Brixton Station is closed but London Underground services are still available.
While there will be no Southeastern services to or from London Victoria on New Year’s Eve, on this day a Saturday timetable will be in operation, with additional trains planned for some routes.
Off-peak fares apply all day and there will be extra late-night services from stations including Charing Cross and London Bridge after midnight. There will be no services from Waterloo East after 11.45pm however.
From New Year’s Day to Sunday, January 4, London Charing Cross and Waterloo East stations will close for engineering works, with most services diverted to London Victoria and there will be a limited service at London Canon Street and London Bridge. While these works are completed, accessible replacement buses will run between:
- Greenwich and Sidcup/Dartford
- Grove Park and Bromley North (Friday, January 2 and Saturday, January 3 only)
- Lewisham and Orpington
Alongside these works, other engineering is planned in Kent on New Year’s Day, meaning that replacement buses will run between Folkestone and Dover/Deal, Canterbury East and Dover, and between Sevenoaks and Ashford International via Maidstone East. The following train stations will be closed all day and served by replacement buses only:
- Adisham
- Aylesham
- Barming
- Bearsted
- Bekesbourne
- Borough Green & Wrotham
- Charing
- Dover Priory
- East Malling
- Harrietsham
- Hollingbourne
- Kearsney
- Lenham
- Martin Mill
- Maidstone East
- Shepherds Well
- Snowdown
- Walmer
- West Malling
Southeastern passengers are also advised that between Monday, December 29 and New Year’s Eve, then again on Friday, December 2, works will be taking place between Paddock Wood and Strood, closing some lines.
As such on these dates, to allow maintenance and inspection work to take place in daylight, trains between Paddock Wood and Strood will run hourly between 9.10am until 3pm each day.
Works will also be taking place along various key lines on Sunday, January 4. On this date, rail replacement buses will run between:
- Ebbsfleet and Strood
- Dartford and Gillingham
- Gravesend/Strood and Maidstone West
- Tunbridge Wells and Battle
