Cash and cigarettes were stolen from the two shops
A man has been charged following reports that two stores in Ashford were robbed at gunpoint on Boxing Day (Friday, December 26).
That morning, officers from Kent Police were called to the incidents at shops in Hythe Road, Willesborough and St Katherine’s Crescent, Sellindge.
Shop workers were allegedly threatened with a firearm before cash and cigarettes were stolen. Later the same day, police arrested a man in connection with these incidents and he was taken into custody.
On Saturday, December 27, Anthony Ponter, of no fixed address, was charged with two counts of robbery and two counts of committing a robbery whilst in possession of an imitation firearm.
The 39-year-old was also charged with possession of cannabis, driving without insurance and driving otherwise than in accordance with a licence.
Anthony has been remanded in custody. He is due to appear before Margate Magistrates’ Court on Monday, December 29.
