A pier has been closed today due to the high winds.
A live video stream has captured footage of huge waves crashing over Ramsgate Harbour Arm this afternoon at around 1.30pm.
The live cam of the harbour area, which runs 24/7 on YouTube, is streamed by Colin O’Reilly, of the Waterfront Pub in Ramsgate.
He said the seafront walkway has been closed for safety reasons.
Yesterday, Thanet District Council issued a weather warning.
It said: “With strong winds forecast today (Wednesday 24 December) until Boxing Day (Friday 26 December), please take extra caution around our coastline.
“Very large waves are expected at all Thanet coastal locations, but the conditions are particularly expected to impact Ramsgate East Pier and the promenades between Ramsgate and Stone Bay in Broadstairs. Waves are due to peak at around 2pm today.
“Warning lights are active at Margate, Broadstairs and Ramsgate Harbours. We strongly advise people to stay away from exposed coastal areas during this time.”
