Firefighters, police and paramedics attended the incident in Falmer Road, Woodingdean, on Monday night.
An East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service spokeswoman said there had been reports of smoke coming from a house but that this turned out to be a false alarm with good intent.
“We were called at 5.57pm on December 22 to reports of a smoke at a residential property in Falmer Road, Brighton.
“On arrival, crews investigated the premises and there was no sign of fire. This was reported as a false alarm with good intent. Crews left the scene by 6.33pm.”
