A woman has been charged with arson following a fire in Chatham. The incident happened at Carton House in New Road at around 12.05am on Saturday (December 13).

Kent Police officers and Kent Fire and Rescue Service attended the scene and the blaze was extinguished. A pile of rubbish was reportedly set alight causing damage to a Jaguar and other vehicles in the parking area.

An investigation was launched and a suspect was arrested on December 19. Michelle Sutcliffe, of Lester Road, Chatham was later charged with arson.

The 40-year-old appeared before Medway Magistrates’ Court and was remanded to a hearing at Maidstone Crown Court on January 16.
