For adults “looking for an engaging, alternative night out and enjoy interactive, competitive fun with friends”
An entertainment venue is set to open in Tunbridge Wells and it will have interactive ping-pong tables and clay pigeon shooting simulators; three karaoke booths; and a retro-themed bar.
The venue set for St John’s, which is just out of the town centre, will be 1970s inspired, London Underground themed, and that even includes cocktails served at the bar.
It will be called Boogie Underground, and subject to permission from Tunbridge Wells Borough Council, will open on the ground floor of the beauty salon and beauty training school, on the busy A26 St John’s Road.
There are five flats above the units. The planning papers say: “The proposal is designed for adults looking for an engaging, alternative night out and enjoy interactive, competitive fun with friends.”
And it’s the vision of the company which has already brought Clue Cracker Escape Rooms to two venues in the same area, at The Shuffle House where it’s Jail Break and The Diamond Dogs; and Temple Quest on St John’s Road. Clue Cracker has stunning reviews on Tripadvisor, with the full five stars from 1,420 reviews.
Here’s more detail on what you’ll find at Boogie Underground
- Two interactive ping-pong tables – using projection mapping to create games that respond to player movements
- Three soundproof karaoke booths – themed as Underground train carriages, each available to book privately for groups of 6–12 people.
- Two interactive clay pigeon shooting simulators – realistic, digital target games providing safe and exciting competitive play.
- A retro-themed bar area – serving cocktails, draught beers, wines, spirits, and soft drinks and will be available to customers using the entertainment venue
- Snacks – limited to packaged items such as crisps, nuts, and sweets. No hot food will be prepared or served on the premises
Opening hours would be: Mondays, closed; Tuesdays to Thursdays, 3pm until 9pm; Fridays, 3pm until 11pm; Saturdays, 11am until 11pm; and Sundays, 11am until 8pm. The application seeks permission to join the beauty school and the salon units.
Two full-time and six part-time staff would be employed there. There is no parking on site. Captiv8 Productions, registered in Tonbridge, has two directors, one lives in Tonbridge and one in East Peckham. The company was established in 2012.
The application says: “The proposal would be operated by Captiv8 Productions Limited who are a Kent-based entertainment company experienced in operating successful leisure and theatrical experiences across the south east.
“The company’s directors have experience in delivering visitor attractions, immersive experiences, and theatre production, including the management of venues close to the application site such as Bogeys Crazy Golf, 71 St Johns Road, Tunbridge Wells and Clue Cracker Escape Rooms, 68 St Johns Road, Tunbridge Wells.”
It also makes this point about what’s missing in Tunbridge Wells, saying the project is responding to the “rapidly growing ‘competitive socialising’ market across the UK, with brands such as Flight Club, Bounce, and Boom Battle Bar demonstrating sustained success: Tunbridge Wells currently lacks a venue of this type”.
