Helena Dollimore, the Labour and Co-operative MP for Hastings, Rye and the surrounding villages, has welcomed the funding boost and said it marks a ‘turning point’ for the area.

This includes £106m for East Sussex County Council, £3m for Hastings Borough Council, and £1m for Rother District Council.
Ms Dollimore said: “For too long under the Conservatives, areas like ours in Hastings, Rye and the villages were left behind and didn’t get essential funding for our local services.
“It’s scandalous that the Conservatives boasted of taking money away from our area and pumped it into wealthier ones like Tunbridge Wells.
“By putting local need at the heart of new council funding, the Labour Government is righting that wrong and improving our crumbling public services.
“This is a turning point, a chance to turn the page on a decade of cuts and broken public services.
“So many of the complaints I get as our local MP are about our local council services.
“The Labour Government has provided the money to fix this.
“Now it’s over to local councils to put it to good use.”
The money is part of the first multi-year funding settlement for councils in more than a decade, giving councils three years of financial certainty so they can plan ahead rather than firefight year to year.
The new funding model is based on up-to-date deprivation data and identified local need, aiming to address long-standing inequalities in council funding.
Ms Dollimore said under the previous Conservative administration, funding decisions were based on outdated data, resulting in growing disparities and financial strain for councils in deprived areas.
The new settlement is designed to ensure that communities with the greatest needs receive a fairer share of resources.
This is in addition to the £21.5m extra funding the Government is giving to Hastings to improve the town.
