The post said: “(We’ve) been giving this some thought the past while and we’ve ultimately decided to close down on December 20.

“Due to family matters, I simply can’t be in three places at once. Missing time with my family, as well as the overheads of running a business, make it not worth it now in my option for me personally anyway.

“So aye, that aside, I also want to thank everyone who’s worked here in the past and present, it’s been some laugh and had some characters. And of course, a personal thank you to all of our customers we’ve had, whether it’s been one or a hundred visits, each one of you has helped keep local people in jobs and put the food on our tables, ironically, while we’ve put the food on yours.”

The spot went on to add that it is only the Newarthill venue closing, the Rigside eatery will remain open.

Customers were left saddened by the news.

Replying to the post, one person said: “End of an era. The Fat Yank will forever live on in my arteries.”

Another said: “Gutted! You’re by far the best burger place around. We’ve been going to you right from the start.”

A third said: “Gutted you are closing, amazing food and staff.”

A fourth added: “Newarthill losing a good brand and good people.”

A fifth person said: “I’m devastated!”
