Emergency services were called to London Road, in Bognor, on Friday, December 5, due to the fire above Bon Marche at around 8pm.
The pedestrianised area of the street was closed as crews worked, as well as nearby Bedford Street.
Police said no injuries were reported and no arrests were made at the time.
The force launched an investigation as it was believed the fire was started deliberately.
They are now appealing for information and asking people to come forward.

A spokesman said: “Can you help? We are appealing for information after a suspicious fire in Bognor.
“Officers are keen to trace witnesses or anyone with information, in particular anyone who saw something suspicious in the area from 7pm to 9pm.
“Information can be reported to Sussex Police online or by calling 101, quoting serial 1322 of 05/12.”
Members of the public were advised to avoid the area and keep windows and doors closed while fire crews worked.
At the height of the fire, six fire engines were on the scene.
A spokeswoman for the fire service added: “We were called at 8pm to reports of a fire on the pedestrianised section of London Road, Bognor Regis
“Joint Fire Control mobilised three pumps to the scene.
“Upon arrival firefighters were faced with a retail unit that was on fire. A further three pumps were deployed, and the fire was brought under control.
“Fire crews left the scene at approximated 1am. Sussex Police remained in attendance.”
