Sean “Diddy” Combs’ high-profile trial finally came to a close earlier this year. The rapper and music mogul — known throughout his career as Puff Daddy, P. Diddy, and Puffy — was indicted in September 2024 on sex trafficking and racketeering conspiracy charges following a federal investigation. After being found not guilty of the most serious charges, Diddy appeared in court for his prison sentencing on October 3, 2025, in connection to prostitution-related convictions tied to the case.

Hollywood Life has all the details about Diddy’s sentencing and what it means for his future, below.

    When Was Diddy’s Sentencing Hearing?

Diddy’s sentencing hearing took place on October 3, 2025, concluding a months-long legal battle that began in the spring. The hearing was presided over by a federal judge in New York. The judge handed down the final sentence after reviewing pre-sentencing reports and arguments from both the prosecution and defense.

    Diddy’s Prison Sentence Details

Diddy was officially sentenced on October 3, 2025, to 4 years and two months following a trial that began on May 12, 2025. While he was found not guilty of sex trafficking and racketeering conspiracy, the court ruled on lesser prostitution-related convictions connected to the same investigation.

Ahead of the verdict, former New York City prosecutor and criminal defense attorney Paul Callan told Us Weekly that a sentence of “10 to 20 years” was likely if Diddy were convicted. “Given the severity of the charges, a lengthy jail sentence is a virtual certainty if he is convicted,” Callan said in September 2024, adding that federal prosecutors “generally obtain guilty pleas or convictions after trial in more than 90% of the cases they bring.”

Callan added that prosecutors “presented a strong case to both federal judges that Combs was likely to flee and/or threaten witnesses in the case if released.”

“In such cases, the federal courts will sustain pretrial incarceration,” he added. “The lower court decision can be appealed but I believe a reversal of the lower court order is unlikely.”

    Why Was Diddy in Jail?

Diddy is behind bars at MDC Brooklyn because he was indicted for multiple charges related to racketeering, sex trafficking and transportation to engage in prostitution.

According to the U.S. Attorney’s Office, Combs was accused of running a “criminal enterprise” to “facilitate his abuse and exploitation of women” from 2008 to the present. Furthermore, Diddy allegedly “committed crimes including sex trafficking, forced labor, kidnapping, arson, bribery and obstruction of justice.”

Diddy pleaded not guilty to the charges.

Did Diddy Get Released From Jail?

No, Diddy has not been released from prison. Following his October 3, 2025 sentencing, Diddy was ordered to remain incarcerated as he began serving his prison term.

Later that month, TMZ reported that Donald Trump was “vacillating” on commuting Diddy’s sentence. However, the White House denied the report, and Diddy remains in prison.

How Long Is Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs’ Jail Sentence?

A New York federal judge handed him 4 years and 2 months (50 months) in prison, factoring in time already served. He also received a $500,000 fine and will be subject to 5 years of supervised release after completing his sentence. Because he has already been in custody since his arrest, that time will count toward his overall sentence.

After being found guilty of transportation for prostitution and not guilty of sex trafficking and racketeering conspiracy, Diddy’s prison sentence was not immediately determined, but prosecutors were reportedly hoping he would get at least 11 years behind bars.

What Did They Find in Diddy’s House Raids?

Diddy’s Miami and Los Angeles properties were raided by Homeland Security in mid-2024. Feds seized various items in both homes, including “Freak Off supplies, including narcotics and more than 1,000 bottles of baby oil and lubricant.”
